DESCRIPTION:PAPC members have a unique opportunity to take a full day oil painting plein air workshop with Don Yang\, who serves as chair of both the Fine Art and Foundations Departments at the American Academy of Art\, and is one of our favorite guest artists. SUMMARY:Paint Out:  Dearborn Station
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday contains the excitement of city streets and the historical Dearborn Station along with a beautiful clock tower. \nDearborn Station was\, beginning in the late 1800s\, one of six intercity train stations serving downtown Chicago.  In 1971 passenger service left the Station\, and after years of neglect it began a new life in mid-1980 as a commercial office/retail center\, helping to revitalize Printers Row District of Chicago. It remains one of the oldest railroad stations in the United States and is the last remaining early downtown train station in Chicago.  The Station\, originally completed in 1885\, with its 12 story Romanesque clock tower sets off the southern view of Dearborn Street. \nThere is street parking and bathrooms inside the building.

DESCRIPTION:As part of Open House Chicago\, we are including several buildings on the tour for our paint out locations. More on that later. \nAnother option in this neighborhood is the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel\, a majestic structure about a block away at 5850 S Woodlawn. \nSome history: The Frederick C. Robie House is a U.S. National Historic Landmark now on the campus of the University of Chicago in the South Side neighborhood of Hyde Park.  The Robie House stands as an important part of America’s cultural heritage\, a powerful declaration of  Frank Lloyd Wright’s uncompromising vision for a new American architecture.  This famous home is constructed of red Roman brick and was one of the first residences to incorporate steel beams into its design. \nThe Plein Air Cafe (note: the name implies outdoor eating and not painting) is located next to the Robie House.
