PAPC Annual Member Exhibit and Opening Reception

    • Description: The PAPC Annual Exhibit is the year-ending event and offers members an opportunity to exhibit the paintings they have done throughout the season. Held at the Palette and Chisel, the opening reception invites patrons to purchase paintings and meet the artists, and offers members a chance to socialize with their peers.
    • Drop off date: See above.  NO Exceptions! The $400 and Under Show is right before ours and you don’t want your work mixed up with those sales!
    • Exhibit and Sale 10 Days in December. Opening reception, Friday December 5th, 6pm-9pm at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Art, 1012 N. Dearborn, Chicago.
    • Art Ready Submission Deadline: Plan on submitting up to 3 plein air paintings. At least TWO must be painted at a PAPC paint out location. If you are only submitting 2 paintings, one may be a plein air done outside the group.  All paintings must be current, painted this year and en plein air.
    • Size limits: total square inches of the 3 paintings, not including frame, cannot exceed 400 square inches. We will NOT hang extra paintings – no exceptions.
    • Frames: Wired frames only; NO sawtooth hangers. NO white frames. Hanging committee WILL NOT fix frames. Frames that are not stable will not be hung.
    • Label: Label the back of every painting with your name, title, price, contact info especially text number in case there is a problem during hanging.
    • Pricing: Artists decide on their pricing but the show minimum price for framed work is $250, unless work measures under 8×10″. The Palette will take 20% of all sales.
    • Participation: ALL participating artists are required to volunteer to gallery sit or help with the opening reception. A volunteer sheet will be posted via our Facebook page the Monday before Thanksgiving. If you do not volunteer and show up, your paintings will not be hung or you will not be able to participate the following year. If we do not have gallery sitters, we cannot open the galleries and sell our work.
    • Artwork will be submitted via Online Juried Shows. Watch for the email and Facebook posting with the link. Read the prospectus.

PAPC Exhibits and Events

Member Opportunities to Display and Sell Paintings

As a PAPC member you have the opportunity to participate in several exhibits and events to promote visibility and sales. Below is the summary information with important dates. Your participation is your decision. This information is being provided to help you with planning and preparation through the remainder of the year.

 Participation and Submission Guidelines

Note: requirements may change for each show. More information will be available for you in the PAPC Prospectus when required.

You must be a paid member of the PAPC.

  •  All paintings must be painted plein air during the current season, unless otherwise designated. Photos or references of any type from any other sources are not allowed as reference materials. No digital art. The original painting must be created using pigments.
  • Participating artists can only submit works painted this season with the group in the Chicago area. PAPC encourages the experience of painting the city of Chicago – the lake, the skyline, the neighborhoods. In general, the theme of our shows revolves around Chicago as featured in our Paint Outs.
  •  All work featured in a physical exhibit must be framed with stability and wired: NO sawtooth hangers, tape, staples, or screws.
  • Artists must meet all guidelines on size as noted by show requirements where applicable.
  • Submission guidelines are different for each show. Artists must complete the information required and pay fees by the appointed date to participate in curated shows when required.
  • Artists are responsible for the final quality of photo images used in submissions. Work photographed with a frame will not be accepted. In submitting a photograph. The artist understands that any image of accepted work may be used for show promotion.
  • Pop-up exhibits: Paint outs are not generally selling events unless the work sells from the easel. Events noted as pop-up exhibits are invitations to bring additional paintings to sell from your easel or in a designated area. For the safety of foot traffic and your work, confine your for-sale products to the footprint beneath your easel. In most cases we estimate an artist has about a 6’x6’ area. No additional tables or displays are permitted.
  • When participating in paint outs and pop-up exhibits, we expect that artists will wear their PAPC badge and have PAPC business cards ready to distribute.
  • In agreeing to participate in a PAPC show, each artist is expected to actively promote the related events. This includes widely sharing invitations and announcements through your own Facebook page, Instagram account, and other social media. We expect that you will extend invitations widely to your friends, network of collectors, supporters, church groups and other interest groups.
